I Remembered an Angel

Today's Note
Today I remembered an angel.  Time has passed.  People have come and gone.  Seasons have changed.  And with all that has taken place, this angel is still and always will be near and dear to the hearts of many.  I remembered an angel who looked out for me and so many others regardless of their good qualities or short comings.  I remembered an angel who watched over people as they slept in the cold air of the night.  I remembered an angel who cared for people in the neighborhood who were less fortunate or rejected by their family.  Your looks, disposition, build or demeanor were never feared.  This angel was a protector for those who could not protect themselves and a giver to those who needed it most. This angel put the care of others before the care of themselves and prayed for you when others may have given up on you. I remembered an angel who had wings that grew 96 years long and covered so many. 

Never take those who come into your life for granted for you never know when you will be touched by an angel.  They may be present for a reason, season or a lifetime.  They may be a stranger, an acquaintance, a relative or a friend.  But, when you are touched by an angel, you will realize it.  It will be life changing.  It will be love.  Love always. Reflection on the Loss of His Father

Today's Note
My husband lost his father on November 16, 2011 at the age of 92 years old.  As the one year anniversary of this event drew closer and closer, he began to reflect more and more on wonderful memories and how he has managed to deal with the loss of a person who was near and dear to him.  My husband is not a poet and he is not known to express himself in writing. However, he is a man, a son, a husband, a father and a friend.  He is a person who loves. Today, my husband was inspired to write down a few words of expression.  They are not grand or verbose.  They are simply put, from a son who loves and misses his father.

Here I stand, one year later.

On this day one year ago, I lost the person who made me the man I am today.
On this day one year ago, I lost the person who taught me the value of hard work.
On this day one year ago, I lost the person who taught me that there is nothing more important than family.
On this day one year ago, I lost one of my best friends.
On this day one year ago, I lost the person who taught me to always keep my "swag" up.
On this day one year ago, I lost the person who told me to always keep God first.
On this day one year ago, I lost my dad.
So, here I stand, one year later,  proud to be David Kent, Jr.
I love you, Pop!

Take a Chance

Today's Note
Have you ever thought about the true difference between opposites? 

The opposite of happy is sad.

The opposite of joy is pain. 
The opposite of high is low. 
The opposite of up is down. 
The opposite of win is lose. 
The opposite of full is empty. 
The opposite of healthy is sick. 
The opposite of love is hate.

I think you get the picture.  The true in these specific examples is positive vs. negative or good vs. bad.   If you were given a choice to take a chance with one vs. the other, which would you choose?  I would choose to take a chance with the positive side.  I would change to take a chance with all that is good.  I would jump at the opportunity to take a chance with love, because love is something worth having, being a part of, doing and giving.  Love gives life purpose and meaning.  Love makes life worth living.  Never give up on it, because doing so becomes a choice to take a chance with something that is not love.  Is that the choice you really want to make?  Is that the chance you are willing to take? I Will Always Love You

Today's Note
There is quite a bit going on within my family right now. My son is experiencing the "college" life.  My daughter is a new mother experiencing parenthood.  My mother is still dealing with the experiences of my baby brother who is still trying to find himself and growing from past lessons learned.  Other siblings are experiencing health, financial, parenting and/or relationship issues.  Nieces and nephews are learning about the real value of money, life and responsibilities.  Cousins are supporting their little one's as they begin school and learn to play team sports.  We are all learning and growing from these experiences.  We are all making choices along the way.  Some of these choices are good and some are not.  Some are well thought through. Others are not.  Some are  understood and some  are not.  Some have positive outcomes and some do not.  But, through them all, we are still family.  We live and learn.  When it is all said and done, we still love one another.  We always have and we always will. We love in close proximity and with distance.  We love through the good and the bad.  We love even when we have to let go for a while. We love even when it may seem like we don't. 
 

I often tell my kids, "I will always love you, regardless. I may not always like the things you do, but I will always love you. You may not always make the best decisions, but I will always love you. You will make mistakes in life, but through them all, I will always love you. No matter what you are going through, never forget that I will always love you.  God will always love you too."  That's how love is.  Regardless of your life situation and who comes in and out of your life, always remember that someone loves you and will always love you.  Love will always love you.  Love always. I Don't Mind Saying, "I Love You"

Today's Note

Love is contagious and brings about positive change. Try making a habit of telling someone you love them and watch how often you hear it in return.  I don't mind saying, "I love you." When I say it, I mean it. My actions are a demonstration and confirmation that I do not misuse or abuse those delicate words.   Saying, "I love you" is a representation of the brotherly love that God wants us to have for one another. It means that you care for a person.  You care about who they are, where they are and what they are going through.  You know that your genuine love will make a difference no matter how big or small.  Try it and watch what a difference it makes.  Love always. Touch Me

Today's Note

If I must be touched by anyone or anything, I want to be touched by love.  I want to be touched in a way that may not fully be describable with words you've ever heard of.  I want love to touch me in a way that brings about a new level of appreciation for word. Brings about a new voice for a song with words and music you've never heard. I want love to touch me in a way that brings about a new appreciation for living, existing and being.  I want love to touch me in a way that brings about life, purpose and meaning.  I want love to touch me in a way that nothing and no one else can or ever will.  Touch me in a way that the love I share provides the medicine for someone, somewhere to heal. Flaws and All

Today's Note
No one is perfect. On this journey to grow in love, I accept that I am a work in progress and realize that others are as well.  We are who we are, flaws and all. Everyone is in a different place and in a different space with love.  We may not fully understand the actions of others.  However, what we can understand is that our actions are a reflection of where we are in love.

Love accepts you for who you are, right now, today, in this moment in time.  It does not force change.  It realizes that you are uniquely you and that your place and space with love is different than others. It is contagious and brings about positive change, naturally.  A person who loves and knows how to love others will love you for you; flaws and all. That's the wonderful thing about love. Love is for giving and forgiving.  It is for giving to others.  It is forgiving of others and yourself.  It is not about what one can do for you, but what you can do for others.  There are greater rewards that come from giving than receiving.  There are greater rewards that come from forgiving than holding on to grudges, anger and personal regrets.  Giving is not just about money or material items.  It is inclusive of your time, your support and your talents.  It is advice that steers someone in a positive direction and causes positive change.  It is an ear to listen.  Forgiving is not just about accepting an apology.  It is being able to let go even when someone fails to apologize.  It's about being able to move forward after you have made a mistake and not continuing to beat yourself up about it.  Love to give and forgive. It took 43 years to get to where I am now.  I have experienced a lot.  I have grown tremendously.  And it doesn't stop there.  There is still more to come. If I had not gone through the things I have gone through, I would not be where I am now.  I wouldn't know the things I know now.  I wouldn't love the way I love now.  I had to go through to get through.  I thank God for His love and my life.  For it is the path He has set for me that strengthened my relationship with Him and all that is love.  And if it were not for the path that was set for me, I wouldn't know Love always. Better Days

Today's Note

I was blessed with the opportunity to babysit my grandson this past weekend.  He's three and a half months old and a bundle of joy. As of that moment, I was officially dubbed, "Grandma T."  And while my days are consistently filled with happiness, the days spent with my grandson this past weekend will forever be remembered as some of my better days.  When he smiled, it appeared as if the room lit up.  When he laughed, the sun seemed to shine that much brighter.  When he slept, I felt as if angels were watching over him.  What an amazing gift from God. As I watched him and his innocence, I began to look forward to sharing even more of those "better days" with him. 

I look forward to watching him grow.  I look forward to seeing him running around exploring new things.  I look forward to reading to him, helping him learn his ABC's, colors and first words, and answering the same question over and over again - "Why?"  I look forward to sharing experiences of the past and lessons learned to bring about better days for him.  Most importantly, I look forward to sharing love with him.  Love always. Ultimate Relationship

Today's Note
A relationship is a connection between two or more people (or things).  I can think of a number of relationships I've experienced.  This includes relationships with friends, family and coworkers. Some were personal and others were strictly business. Some were for short periods of time and others were longer. Some still exist today.  I have trusted people in relationships who have been consistent in character. Then there are those who revealed that they cannot be trusted at all. 

I often hear of people longing for relationships with others.  Some desire friendship.  Some desire intimacy and romance.  Some just want to belong and be a part of a group or organization.   Some of these relationships are good.  Others are bad experiences that provide lessons learned.  Some  are for a reason, season or a lifetime.  God did not put us here to be alone.  So it is natural to want to establish some type of relationship.  However, some people strive so hard to be in a relationship with another person that they forget about the ultimate relationship.  The ultimate relationship provides the foundation for building successful relationships with others.  When you establish a connection with the ultimate relationship, you will find that being in the right relationships become more of the norm.  Those relationships are more fulfilling and support your personal growth in a positive way.  They are more charitable and unselfish.  The ultimate relationship is God.  The ultimate relationship is love.  When you find love in the ultimate relationship, you will be able to find love in yourself and others.
